Colts downplay upcoming game vs. Pats: 'Our concern is us'

The Indianapolis Colts have a huge matchup against the New England Patriots next week, but you wouldn’t know that from talking to them.

The Colts apparently have been quiet about their Week 6 rivalry game, acting as though it’s just another game on their schedule. The Indianapolis Star’s Zak Keefer talked to some of the players Friday, and it was business as usual.

“It’s the next game,” tight end Dwayne Allen said. “It’s the next opponent.”

“They’re hot,” wide receiver T.Y. Hilton said. “Can’t wait to see (what happens). That Patriots team hasn’t played this Colts team.”

This Colts team has struggled thus far, dropping its first two games against the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets before squeaking by the Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans in three straight games. And there’s certainly a lot on the line against a Patriots team that looks unstoppable and delivered a 45-7 beating to the Colts in their last matchup.

New England has outscored Indy 189-73 in their last four meetings, meaning the Patriots are averaging 47 points per game to the Colts’ 18. There’s no doubt the Colts want their revenge, but they’re playing it cool for now.

“Really not concerned with that,” Colts coach Chuck Pagano said. “Our concern is us right now and getting better, so that’s what we’re doing right now. The guys are watching the tape, evaluating it, looking at the positives, looking at areas where individually and position group-wise, offense, defense, special teams, where we can get better. Our focus is on us and us only. We know we’ve got a big game coming up because it’s the next game.”

And the Colts are going to have to put a lot of focus into this game because as much as they want their revenge, they’re the ones who started Deflategate after last season’s AFC Championship Game. So there’s no doubt the Pats will want to show their dominance, too.
