Robert Griffin III reportedly gets good news on his injured shoulder

After just one game with the Cleveland Browns, Robert Griffin III was sidelined with a shoulder injury that landed him on injured reserve. He was expected to have surgery on it -- likely ending his season -- but after four weeks, there’s a glimmer of hope he’ll be able to be back on the field in 2016.

A four-week checkup revealed that Griffin’s shoulder is showing signs of healing and may not require surgery after all, according to Jeff Darlington of ESPN.

Now, this doesn’t mean Griffin will be back in Week 10 when he’s first eligible, but it certainly is a good sign. Had he been forced to undergo a procedure on his shoulder, he likely would have missed the rest of the season. Should he be fortunate enough to avoid surgery, a return would be in the cards.

The first game Griffin is eligible to play in is Nov. 10 against the Ravens. As great as it would be to see him back in a Browns uniform, he and the team may opt to play it safe, given his injury history.

Add in the fact that the Browns are essentially out of the running for a playoff spot and risking a re-injury is probably not the best idea.

As it stands right now, Cody Kessler is the starting quarterback until Josh McCown or possibly RG3 are able to return. He’s been better than expected despite being held winless, but that’s not entirely his fault.
