Buried Bowe may finally get his chance this Sunday with Hawkins ailing
Browns receiver Dwayne Bowe might finally get the window of opportunity he's been looking for after fellow wideout Andrew Hawkins suffered a concussion in Sunday's loss to the Rams.
Bowe has been a healthy scratch the last three games and head coach Mike Pettine said last week that the top four receivers were “entrenched” on the depth chart. Bowe, who has played a total of just 12 snaps this season after signing a two-year deal worth $12.5 million in the offseason, is still looking for his first catch. He has only dressed twice this season.
Hawkins is in the concussion protocol and is likely to miss at least one game. He appeared to be shaken up after colliding with defensive tackle Nick Fairley while diving for a loose ball. Hawkins has 20 receptions for 207 yards and no touchdowns this season.
The Browns could certainly use a receiver of Bowe's size and pedigree, but the fact that he's been buried behind an underwhelming group is alarming. In fact, if not for his $9 million guarantee, Bowe may have been cut already.
