Weeden not assuming he'll start

Although Brandon Weeden is the Browns' presumed starter, the rookie quarterback isn't assuming anything in his competition with Colt McCoy.

Coach Pat Shurmur has not yet chosen Weeden his starter, but the team is grooming the 28-year-older to be their franchise quarterback. Weeden said ''not yet'' when asked if anything has happened to make him think he won't be behind center when the Browns open their season against Philadelphia on Sept. 9.

McCoy, who started 13 games last season, said he hasn't allowed himself to think about being a backup.

Seneca Wallace, the Browns' backup QB the past two seasons, doesn't believe there is room for himself, Weeden and McCoy. Wallace has been impressed with Weeden and says he's got ''all the things you want in a quarterback.''
