Bengals WR Marvin Jones feeling good after first game back

After a 591-day layoff, Bengals receiver Marvin Jones was thrilled to be back on the field in last Friday's preseason opener against the Giants.

Jones, who missed all of 2014 with foot and ankle injuries, saw 25 plays, finishing with one catch for 17 yards. He was underthrown by quarterback Josh Johnson in the end zone on his only other target. For Jones, it was a big step in the right direction after missing more time this training camp with a tight hamstring.

"It felt good to get out there and get extended playing time and get back into things," Jones said via ESPN.com.

Head coach Marvin Lewis was equally happy to see Jones back on the field. Ten days ago, Lewis warned that Jones would have to start practicing if he wanted to play.

"It was great for Marvin Jones to play through the second quarter like he did and feel good about it," Lewis said. "He did a nice job catching the ball, avoiding the first tackle and turning up the field and running. It had to feel good for him."

The return of Jones and tight end Tyler Eifert will give quarterback Andy Dalton two weapons that he sorely missed last season. With a complete arsenal of receivers and a strong running game, the Bengals' offense is set up to do some damage in 2015.
