Bears OC Gase names three ways Jay Cutler has improved this year

When the Chicago Bears chose John Fox to head the team's new coaching staff this offseason, he brought offensive coordinator Adam Gase along with him from Denver. Gase's first order of business with his new team was to fix quarterback Jay Cutler.

Gase has done a good job with Cutler, although his work has mostly flown under the radar with a 4-5 team. On Thursday, he was able to pinpoint three areas of the game in which his 32-year-old quarterback has made improvements this season.

Those areas are his ball security, decision-making, and release, according to Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune.

Cutler has cut back significantly on interceptions (5) and fumbles (3), after turning the ball over a total of 24 times last season. He is completing his pass attempts at a fairly high rate (64.2 percent) and is making the most of each drop-back (7.55 yards per attempt, second-highest rate of his career).

Gase has pulled off what many believed to be impossible, as Cutler is suddenly a serviceable quarterback again. Now, if the rest of the team can show similar improvement, the Bears might actually be in business.
