Chicago Bears Injuries: Optimism and Despair
The Chicago Bears experienced more crushing injuries this weekend. Some of the news following Sunday’s loss has been optimistic while some of it has been heartbreaking.
The Chicago Bears got out to a fast start against the Giants, but were unable to close the game out. Not only did the Bears lose the game, they also lost some key players to injury.
Josh Sitton G: Suffered and ankle injury in the second half. Without Sitton, the Bears are now starting three reserves on the offensive line. Sitton was in a walking boot after the game which likely points to him missing some time.
Tracy Porter CB: Suffered a knee injury when Eli Manning slid into him. Should Porter be unable to play next week, the Bears will be without their top two corners. Chicago will turn to Bryce Callahan to be their top cover man.
Cre’von Leblanc CB: Suffered a concussion in the first half and didn’t return. His injury further weakens a thin secondary.
Leonard Floyd OLB: By far the scariest injury of the day. Floyd flew into a pile with his head down and made contact with another Bears defensive lineman. Floyd was promptly put on a stretcher and taken immediately to the hospital. John Fox reported that Floyd has been able to move his extremities and should be alright. Floyd was released from the hospital and traveled back to Chicago on the team charter. However, his status for next week is unknown. Sam Acho will fill in until further notice. The Bears and Floyd should thank their lucky stars that this wasn’t career ending.
Zach Miller TE: After shouldering the Bears’ offense for the first half of the game, Miller went down with a foot injury. Unfortunately for the Bears, Miller has broken his foot and will miss the remainder of the season. Chicago will now turn to Logan Paulsen as the starting tight end.
