COSTA MESA, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Chargers signed punter Donnie Jones on Tuesday and waived Drew Kaser, who had been the team's punter and holder the past three seasons.

Kaser is eighth in the league in gross punting average (48.4 yards) but has been inconsistent as a holder on field goals and extra points. Caleb Sturgis is seven of nine on field goals and six of nine on extra points.

Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said he wanted to evaluate all facets of the kicking game before placing all the blame on Sturgis. Lynn did not rule out bringing in other placekickers for tryouts. Los Angeles has had five placekickers since the start of 2017.

Jones, who is in his 15th season, was Sturgis' holder with the Eagles from 2015 to 2017. During those three seasons, Sturgis was 66 of 70 on PAT attempts and 56 of 66 on field goals.

Jones has also been with the Dolphins, Rams and Texans. He has a 45.5-yard gross punting average.
