Chargers offensive lineman Hairston out for season
COSTA MESA, Calif. (AP) The Los Angeles Chargers have placed offensive lineman Chris Hairston on the reserve non-football illness list, ending the season for the backup offensive tackle.
Hairston and head coach Anthony Lynn both declined to discuss the specifics of the illness on Wednesday, but in a tweet early Tuesday morning, Hairston quoted lyrics from a Kanye West song that reference blood clots.
Hairston replaced right tackle Joe Barksdale in the Chargers' 19-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. In his sixth season out of Clemson, Hairston has started 31 of 74 career games.
''I feel badly for Chris because he has worked so hard and been so consistent for us when we needed him to be,'' offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt said.
Sam Tevi, a rookie sixth-round pick from Utah, will now serve as the reserve offensive tackle, Lynn said.
The Chargers also signed offensive tackle Tyler Marz off the Tennessee Titans' practice squad in a corresponding roster move.
