Cam Newton didn’t know who Panthers were playing in Super Bowl

Cam Newton is very excited to be going to Super Bowl 50. So excited, in fact that he admitted that didn’t know who he was actually playing there.

"I don’t know who we’re playing yet, but we’ll be ready to go in weeks," Newton said in the interview above immediately following the Carolina Panthers’ 49-15 win over the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC championship on Sunday.

When FOX Sports’ Chris Myers informed Newton he’d be playing the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning, who’d beaten the New England Patriots earlier in the day, the Panthers quarterback had this reaction.

"Oh wow. Playing the sheriff. Well either way, we’re going to live in the moment," said Newton, who was 19 of 35 for 335 with two touchdowns through the air and two more on the ground. His efforts made sure the game was never really in doubt.

In fact, at halftime Newton said he had a special message for his teammates, who had been up 31-0 against the Seahawks last week but gave up 24 second-half points. He wanted to make sure that didn’t happen again.

"It’s confidential," Newton said when asked what he told teammates. "I don’t want the credit. We won as a team … we did what a lot of people said we couldn’t do."
