Cardinals' quarterbacks, rookies get head start on training camp

Published Jul. 30, 2015 3:34 a.m. ET

Though training camp doesn't officially start until Saturday for the Arizona Cardinals, there were a number of players already going through workouts at the team's facility on Wednesday.

That included quarterbacks, rookies and players returning from injury, meaning Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton were among those getting acclimated in preparation for training camp. Of course one of the bigger storylines heading into 2015 surrounds Palmer's health. The former Heisman Trophy winner out of USC will turn 36 in December and is coming off the second major surgery of his career (torn ACL).

Chandler Harnish, Logan Thomas (played in two games for the Cardinals last season) and Phillip Sims are in competition for the third-string quarterback spot in training camp.

Even though in most cases having a third quarterback on the roster is only for extreme situations, do not discount the fact how many signal callers the Cardinals used in 2014. Palmer, Stanton, along with Ryan Lindley and Logan Thomas all saw time under center.
