Cam Newton didn’t get a flag on the play, but Arizona Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell apparently will pay for the hit.

The NFL fined Campbell $18,231 for his low hit on the Panthers’ star quarterback, NFL.com reported Wednesday.

Campbell dove at Newton’s legs while he was attempting to throw in the third quarter of the Panthers’ 30-20 win. Newton was on the ground for several minutes after the hit in apparent pain, but the referees did not throw a flag.

After the game, Newton said he would talk to commissioner Roger Goodell about the officiating, adding that he didn’t feel safe on the field.

Newton said Wednesday he had a "great conversation" with Goodell, adding that he felt he got his point across.
