Bills' Incognito looks like Comeback Player of the Year candidate
For the most part, the Buffalo Bills' offseason acquisitions have worked out fairly well. Tyrod Taylor has played well when healthy. LeSean McCoy is beginning to look like his old, elusive self, and while those two offensive playmakers were the headliners, Richie Incognito may have been the most important move.
Incognito earned the starting left guard spot early in training camp, and head coach Rex Ryan caught some criticism for the move. Incognito hadn't played in a season-and-a-half, and no one really knew what to expect from him after the bullying scandal.
It was surprising enough that Ryan brought him in in the first place, but it was even more shocking that he was named a starter so early.
After seven games, it looks as though Ryan made the right move in both instances. ProFootballFocus ranks Incognito as the third-best guard in the NFL, behind just Zack Martin of the Cowboys and Marshal Yanda of the Ravens. Additionally, PFF has graded Incognito as the Bills' best player this season.
It might be difficult for Incognito to be considered for Comeback Player of the Year given the circumstances and the cause for his comeback, but he certainly warrants consideration.
Few players have played as well as Incognito this season, and even fewer had a year-and-a-half away from the game. If he continues to play as well as he has, Incognito should certainly be a candidate for the award.
