Bills sign QB Josh Johnson with Tyrod Taylor 'banged up'

Rex Ryan revealed some fairly surprising news on Monday with regards to his quarterback Tyrod Taylor's health. Ryan said Taylor is "beat up" and that we haven't seen him at 100 percent yet. Taylor is currently dealing with chest and ankle injuries throughout the season, and it's forced the Bills to add reinforcements.

The Bills announced on Tuesday that they've signed quarterback Josh Johnson and waived recently-signed kicker Billy Cundiff.

Johnson was released by the Indianapolis Colts on Monday with Andrew Luck expected to play on Sunday night against the New England Patriots. It's unclear what this means for Taylor's availability this week, but it's certainly not a good sign that the Bills brought in a third quarterback after trading Matt Cassel three weeks ago.

Ryan said this about Taylor's status on Monday.

"We all know he finished the game, but we'll see how he's doing," he said. "We'll be looking at him throughout the week and everybody else that we have. He's sore now, I can tell you that much."

There's a chance EJ Manuel could start on Sunday with Johnson as his backup, but it's still too early to tell. For the time being, Johnson and Manuel will prepare as if they'll be asked to play. Johnson has a more similar skill set to that of Taylor's, as he has the ability to pull the ball down and run. He's averaged 6.2 yards per carry in his career, but has thrown just five touchdowns to 10 interceptions.
