Brett Favre cracks a joke when asked about being the Cowboys' backup QB

It’s been made abundantly clear that the Dallas Cowboys have a hole at backup quarterback after losing Kellen Moore for most of the season due to a broken ankle. Dallas then missed out on Nick Foles, who signed with the Kansas City Chiefs this week.

Now, the Cowboys are left with a combination of Dak Prescott and Jameill Showers – neither of whom has attempted an NFL pass.

Brett Favre has been notorious for unretiring and returning to football on a whim, so is he an option? The decorated quarterback is set to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend, which makes it just about impossible, but he did say he has an itch.

He spoke on the possibility during an appearance on NFL Network’s "Good Morning Football."

"You know what? Being around, walking in this Hall and stuff, it kind of gives you an itch," Favre said when asked if he would be Tony Romo’s backup. "The only problem is I can't get hit. Can they promise I won't get hit?"

No, Dallas can’t guarantee that the 46-year-old won’t get hit. But if any team could come close to doing so, it’d be the Cowboys. They have the best offensive line in football, but even Romo couldn’t stay healthy behind it.

"Well, I mean, that's good. But I need a little more ... security," Favre said.

As ludicrous as it sounds, it would be fun to see Favre backing up Romo – even just for a game or two. He would just have to ask the rookie Prescott to give up his No. 4 jersey.
