Brandon Marshall makes NFL history despite loss

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The New York Jets, despite their Week 5 loss, have some positive news about the game as wide receiver Brandon Marshall made NFL history.

Even though the New York Jets are riding a three-game losing streak, there are at least a few positives coming out such a loss. Yes, the Jets are sloppy, undisciplined, and are playing such pathetic football, it makes many fans wonder why they even watch this team on game day. Not all hope is lost however as there is still plenty of football left to be played.

Wide receiver Brandon Marshall continued to do as much as humanly possibly to at least put the Jets in a position to win. The Pittsburgh Steelers, one of the top teams in the NFL, were easily the better team on Sunday.

A loss is a loss but at the end of the day, Marshall continued to add more to his prolific career. Even though it’s an individual victory and obviously a win is more important, one can’t simply speak highly enough of his work ethic and ability to bring so much to the offense of the Jets.

Marshall caught his second touchdown of the year against the Steelers as it ended up being his 81st career touchdown reception. He’s now officially tied in NFL history with wide receiver Art Powell for 24th all-time.

When the game was over, Marshall had his best game so far this season. Marshall totaled 114 receiving yards, eight receptions, and a touchdown.

This was the seventh time in his career that he had a game with five or more receptions and at least 85 receiving yards/a touchdown before the half.

Marshall is now the 21st player in NFL history to hit 900 receptions in his career. At this point in time, Marshall has 906 career receptions.

Most amazing of all has he reached this amazing milestone of his career in the third-fewest games needed (157) in NFL history. It goes to show, even in the tough times of defeat, one must take the loss on the chin and continue to fight.

Overall, the Jets have to once again head back to practice this week and continue to work on getting better. It won’t be easy but one thing is for sure, they’ll get everything #15 got towards ending this losing streak and then some.
