Marshall to get new jersey number?
Wide receiver Brandon Marshall not only has a new team. He also may be getting a new jersey number.
Marshall, who wore No. 15 with Denver, currently doesn’t have that option with the Miami Dolphins. That’s because the player who has the number isn’t willing to surrender it.
In an e-mail to FOXSports.com, agent Kenny Zuckerman said wide receiver Davone Bess plans to keep the same jersey he wore during his first two seasons with Miami. The only way that would change is if Miami stripped Bess of the jersey and assigned it to Marshall.
“Davone told me he is really excited to have Brandon Marshall on the Dolphins,” said Zuckerman, referring to Wednesday’s trade that brought Marshall to Miami. “He said a weapon like that is going to be such a great addition to the club. However, his No. 15 jersey is not for sale. Davone entered the league with it and will finish with it.”
Bess, who was undrafted out of Hawaii in 2008, played with Miami the past two seasons for an NFL-minimum base salary. Marshall has reportedly agreed to a five-year, $50 million contract extension that included $24 million guaranteed.
“I told Davone we can probably name our price, especially with the contract Brandon just signed,” Zuckerman said. “If I had anything to do with it, bidding would have opened at $500,000.”
Bess is on track for his own lucrative payday. He led Miami in receiving last season with 76 catches for 758 yards and two touchdowns.
