Report: Birk fined for not wearing mic

Published Oct. 12, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

Baltimore Ravens center Matt Birk has been fined $5,000 for not wearing a microphone during a game, thesidelineview.com reported Tuesday.

The league's new collective bargaining agreement requires at least two interior offensive linemen to be wired for sound to enhance game audio, according to the report.

The six-time Pro Bowler said Tuesday he took off the mic because it was jabbing him in the neck, according to the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN).

The 14-year veteran out of Harvard plans to appeal the fine.

"I got my sixth kid on the way. I need all my money for diapers and Cheerios," Birk joked, according to MASN.
