Cardinals sign Humphries to 4-year deal, extend Rucker through 2016
TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona Cardinals have signed first-round draft pick D.J. Humphries to a four-year contract and extended the contract of veteran defensive tackle Frostee Rucker through the 2016 season.
Humphries' deal completes the signings of all the Cardinals' seven draft picks. Humphries, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound offensive tackle out of Florida, was the 24th overall pick in the draft.
Humphries played left tackle at Florida. But with Jared Veldheer firmly at that position for the Cardinals, Humphries will play the right side and must beat out starter Bobby Massie for the job.
Rucker's extension was confirmed Monday by a person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team has not officially announced the deal.
Rucker filled in last season after Darnell Dockett sustained a season-ending knee injury in training camp.
The 6-foot-3, 280-pound Rucker appeared in 15 games, eight as a starter. Rucker had one of the best seasons of his nine years in the NFL with a career-high five sacks and a team-high 14 tackles for loss. He had 37 tackles and tied his career best with two forced fumbles.
The extension first was reported by NFL.com. Rucker signed as a free agent with Arizona in 2013.
