Arizona Cardinals hold lead at halftime

The Arizona Cardinals came out strong for the second consecutive week

The Arizona Cardinals came out and scored on their first drive of the game for the second consecutive week.  For the second consecutive week, they didn’t follow it up immediately with another score.

The Cardinals went on a 15-play 75-yard drive that took up almost nine minutes.  They allowed just two Redskins field goals on defense despite allowing the Redskins to run and throw the ball.

Redskins running back Robert Kelley had 44-yards rushing in the first half, seven more yards than he had all last week at the Dallas Cowboys. Cardinals running back David Johnson had 36-yards rushing in the first half.  However 22 of those yards came on that first drive.

Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer had yards and no touchdowns.  Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins was the victim of a couple of dropped passes.  He was 9-16 for 89-yards and no touchdowns.  Neither quarterback threw an interception.

The Cardinals were able to move down the field on the final first half drive to get a score. Unfortunately Palmer missed a wide-open receiver Larry Fitzgerald in the end zone and went for a fade route to Michael Floyd.  Kicker Chandler Catanzaro converted a 28-yard field goal to give the Cardinals a 10-6 halftime lead.

The Cardinals will take a lead no matter how they can get it.  However after an early 7-0 lead, the Cardinals offense clamped up.  The defense held on for dear life and only allowed the six points.

The Redskins will start the second half with the football.  It is important for the Cardinals defense to come out strong and get the ball back as quickly as possible.

The Cardinals will not win this game 10-6.  More offense will be needed and they also need to do a better job of wrapping Kelley up.
