Cardinals RB Ellington to see specialist in L.A. for turf toe
Arizona Cardinals running back Andre Ellington is expected to see a specialist this week for his turf toe injury.
Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said he doesn't expect Ellington to play this week after sustaining the injury in Sunday's win at San Francisco. Arians is hopeful Ellington will be available for a Week 14 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings after visiting a specialist in Los Angeles.
Ellington was hurt in the same game as starting running back Chris Johnson, who suffered a chip fracture in his left tibia Sunday and was placed on the injured reserve/designated to return list. Johnson will not be eligible to play again this season unless Arizona advances to the Super Bowl.
“(The toe) is going to be sore the rest of the year, but not as bad as his foot last year,” Arians said, referring to ailment that plagued Ellington throughout the 2014 season.
Rookie David Johnson is expected to start Sunday against the St. Louis Rams with Stepfan Taylor serving as his backup. The Cardinals also promoted Kerwynn Williams from the practice squad to the active roster on Tuesday.
In other injury news, Arians said that starting cornerback Jerraud Powers (calf) and defensive tackle Frostee Rucker (ankle) are likely to sit out Sunday's game.
