Osweiler completed 96 of 172 passes for 1,088 yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions during the 2017 season. He also added 64 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.
The highlight of Osweiler's campaign came in Week 15, when he lit up the hapless Colts in relief of an injured Trevor Siemian (shoulder) and completed 12 of 17 passes while accounting for three touchdowns. As was the case during his time in Houston the season before, however, Osweiler sputtered in a starting role, losing all four of his starts while completing fewer than 58 percent of his passes in each of those contests. Osweiler was a necessary signing to start the season due to his familiarity with offensive coordinator Mike McCoy's scheme and fellow quarterback Paxton Lynch sidelined with an ankle injury, but Osweiler's time in the organization could be over. McCoy was fired mid-season and Osweiler is now bound for free agency in the offseason.
