Westchester Knicks: Alternate Jersey Ideas To Consider
The Westchester Knicks donned a purple and green jersey during the 2015-16 season. What kind of jerseys should Westchester consider in the future?
All across minor league sports, teams have used a variety of different jerseys. Minor league baseball (MiLB) is known for using many jerseys during a given season (Brooklyn Cyclones Irish Jersey Night, for instance).
In the NBA D-League, the Texas Legends, the Dallas Mavericks affiliate, had many charitable jersey nights last season and auctioned off those jerseys during the game. The Legends weren’t the only team in the NBADL that wore jerseys to benefit charities.
The Reno Bighorns, the Sacramento Kings affiliate, wore jerseys to honor and benefit different charities. The Bighorns sported pink jerseys to benefit EachOneTellOne and the team wore these jerseys to benefit Hi5sFoundation.
On other occasion, Reno sported a Star Wars jersey in their December meeting against the Austin Spurs.
Those are only a couple of teams that have worn jerseys to honor charities. Other teams did that last season.
While the Legends are known for using a large selection of jerseys in a season, there are some NBADL teams that should follow in the footsteps of Texas.
Outside of the home and away jerseys the Westchester Knicks normally use, the team used a few different jerseys last season. Westchester wore a purple jersey to stand up for domestic violence) and a green jersey (Go Green Night) on separate occasions.
With the D-League season only two weeks away, let’s take a look at some jerseys the Westchester Knicks should consider for the 2016-17 season.
New York Skyline
What is New York known for? In a Family Feud-esque way, the New York skyline would be the number one answer. No matter where you are in New York City, you are guaranteed to get a fantastic view of the skyline.
The World Trade Center, Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, and Central Park Tower are a few of the buildings that illuminate the New York skyline.
There are some NBA teams, such as the Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets and Cleveland Cavaliers, that have gone this route before. The NBA even incorporated the Toronto skyline on the jerseys for the 2016 All-Star Game.
With the variety of choices the Knicks could choose, the New York skyline would be a great choice. It shows the team is embracing their hometown. The skyline represents several different things; one of those being the Mecca of Basketball.
Even though this has been done previously, it would be interesting to see the Westchester Knicks follow in their footsteps.
There is no better way to represent the organization and state by showcasing the notorious New York skyline.
Original Logo On Short Sleeve Jersey
The NBA usually introduces unique Christmas Day jerseys for the slate of games on the holiday. In 2013, the Association brought in the short sleeve jersey. The Knicks wore orange short sleeve shirts when the team hosted the Oklahoma City Thunder.
There are a few teams that use the short sleeve jersey in the league. Westchester should follow in the footsteps of the Legends, Austin Spurs and Erie Bayhawks.
Westchester’s jersey could be similar to the one the Knicks donned in their Christmas game, where the D-League team uses their affiliate’s primary orange and blue colors.

If dubKnicks followed the Knicks’ Christmas Day jersey, the team should incorporate their current logo on the jersey.
Westchester’s primary logo is similar to the logo New York used when the team was founded in 1946. The Knicks logo is a modified version of the team’s original logo of “Father Knickerbocker” dribbling a basketball.
The current logo has meaning to it. The New York Knicks started using the logo during their first season in the BBA (Basketball Association of America) and used it for 17 years. The dubKnicks should embrace the history of the Knickerbockers and consider using their current logo on a jersey.
Batman Jersey Night
Who doesn’t like seeing one of their favorite movies, television shows, or characters on a jersey?
Last season, the Reno Bighorns hosted Star Wars Night, which saw the players suit up in Yoda jerseys. MiLB teams go in this direction quite often; the Brooklyn Cyclones hosted Full House Night during the 2016 season.
While some of the jerseys look odd, others look amazing. When a team has one of these nights, it brings a different crowd to the arena. Some fans dress up and have a blast. And some teams like the Fort Wayne Mad Ants give their fans the opportunity to take a picture with characters from the Star Wars movies.
This is where the Knicks and Batman cross paths.
New York City is often referred to as Gotham City. The jerseys could be similar to the Yoda jerseys with the face of Batman on both sides of the jersey.
When the team gets introduced in front of their home crowd, the Knicks could follow in the footsteps of Batman. Westchester’s logo is beamed on the ceiling at the Westchester County Center, while the Batman theme song is played in the background.
It’s almost an ideal situation to have the Westchester Knicks suit up in a Batman Gotham City jersey.
Ugly Holiday Jersey
When you think of Christmas, the first thing that comes yo mind is spending time with the family around the Christmas tree. Every thing about Christmas is very pleasant; the Christmas tree, the decorations on the tree, and maybe a nice cup of hot chocolate.
One thing that isn’t pleasant, even though it’s synonymous with Christmas, is the ugly Christmas sweater.

The NBA introduced ugly Christmas sweaters a few years ago, so it would be interesting to see a team incorporate it in a jersey. Even though these jerseys are not close to being pretty, it adds a little holiday spirt to it.
An MiLB wore wear the ugly holiday uniforms last season, so it would be intriguing to see a similar jersey in the NBADL.
The D-League usually gives their players a few days off before and after Christmas, so they can enjoy the holidays with their families. With that being said, it would be interesting to see a team get in the holiday spirits by having ugly holiday jerseys in their last game before the holiday.
