Milwaukee Buck Larry Sanders said he was sorry his marijuana use violated the NBA’s drug policy, but still defended the substance for medicinal use.

The 25-year-old center, who was suspended for five days without pay, issued an apology after the ruling on Friday, saying "I take full responsibility for my actions."

But Sanders spoke with NBA.com and the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel hours later to ardently defend the use of marijuana, a substance that is still illegal in most states:

The Bucks have not commented beyond this issued statement: "Larry Sanders has a responsibility to every person in our organization and our fans. We are all disappointed by the news of his suspension."
