Sixers rookie Ben Simmons suffers right foot fracture

Published Nov. 15, 2016 3:01 p.m. ET

Philadelphia 76ers rookie Ben Simmons rolled his ankle during the team's final training camp scrimmage on Friday, and suffered a right foot fracture.

"After receiving an X-ray and MRI of the foot and ankle ... it was determined that Simmons suffered a fracture of the fifth metatarsal bone of his right foot," the team said in a statement.

There's no timetable for his return at this time. The news is devastating for Simmons, who was selected with the No. 1 pick in this summer's draft, as well as for the Philadelphia franchise. This is the same type of injury that caused Kevin Durant to miss significant time during the 2014-15 season.
