LaMarcus Aldridge joins Steph Curry in sitting out the Rio Olympics

Hours after Stephen Curry pulled his name from consideration for Team USA in this summer’s Olympics, San Antonio Spurs’ All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge followed suit.

Aldridge will not take part in the Rio Games due to a dislocated finger he suffered late in the regular season.

Aldridge, who averaged 18 points and 8.5 rebounds in his first season with the Spurs, suffered a dislocated right pinkie finger during an April 7 loss to the Warriors.

Spurs general manager RC Buford said in a statement that the team "always support a player’s decision when it comes to participation with his national team."

Curry said in a statement Monday that there were several factors why he won’t be playing for Team USA, "including recent ankle and knee injuries."

Curry didn’t elaborate on the other potential factors, but a number of athletes have shown concern about the potential health hazards of the water in Rio and the Zika virus.

Aldridge just completed the first year of a four-year, $80 million contract.
