Rockets apologize for tweet featuring horse being shot

The Rockets apologized for a tweet sent about the Mavericks.

Talk about headlines you never thought you’d have to write …

The Houston Rockets closed out their series with a Game 5 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night. To commemorate the occasion, they tweeted out an image of a gun shooting a horse, which has since been deleted.

You know how this goes.  Team tweets something controversial, people get upset, team deletes tweet, team apologizes for tweet.  Wash, rinse, repeat.

Social media can be a delicate balancing act between the truly funny and the truly offensive.  At some point, you do have to feel empathy for the folks running these social media departments.  We demand that they be unique, creative, and edgy and then demand them to not dare step out of line.  It’s a difficult tightrope to walk.

However, in this case it’s probably best not to use a gun and depicting the shooting of an animal to 679,000 followers and attach a creepy message to it.
