The house went into pre-foreclosure in November after Erving defaulted on the loan. He has been trying to sell the property for more than a year.
Erving reportedly told TMZ that the house is "substantially underwater," meaning he owes more on his mortgage than the home is worth.
The house, located in St. George, Utah, is worth $2.23 million, according to Foreclosures.com. St. George is located in the southwest corner of Utah, about 120 miles northeast of Las Vegas, Nevada.
The 60-year-old Dr. J, known during his career for his acrobatic dunks, was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993. He averaged 24.2 points per game during his career from 1971-87 with the ABA’s Virginia Squires and New York Nets and the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers.
