Lillard ‘happy’ for ex-teammate after he destroyed Portland
Nicolas Batum spent several productive years as Portland's starting small forward. He did the dirty work and held everyone together. But now he's in Charlotte, playing the best basketball of his career.
On Sunday, Batum sliced into his former team with a 33-point effort. But at least one former teammate isn't too upset about it, per The Oregonian:
Batum scored 33 points, 20 in the first half, of which Blazers head coach Terry Stotts called “as good a half as I've seen him play offensively.”
“I just told him I was happy for him,” Lillard said. “Obviously, I wouldn't want him to play well against us like he did. But I've always been a fan of his game, the way he's played and the kind of teammate that he's been to me. So to see him come here and do well, play at the level that he's playing at, I was happy for him. I told him to just keep playing that way.”
