Jordan Brand unveils the Air Jordan XXX, and it’s … interesting

In 1984, Michael Jordan introduced the world to the original Air Jordan. The shoe was made available to the public the following year, kicking off a craze that has led all the way to Thursday, when Jordan Brand unveiled their latest signature sneaker — the Air Jordan XXX.

Contrary to the risque name, the shoe is absolutely safe for work, because the colorway is rather conservative:

It’s hard to tell from this angle, but initial reactions to the shoe by attendees at the official unveiling (as well as from previously leaked images) indicate that the pattern wrapping around the heel forms a XXX, a not-so-subtle nod to the 30th iteration of Jordan’s signature shoe line.

This initial colorway, which goes on sale Feb. 12, doesn’t immediately compel us to scramble for our wallets, but it’s a solid start. The detail on the toe leaves a lot of options in both material and look, and the overall aesthetic will lend itself well to bolder colorways down the line.

What do you think? Are the Jordan XXXs worth lining up for?
