Shorthanded after losing forward Udonis Haslem for several months due to foot surgery, the Miami Heat will sign center Erick Dampier on Tuesday, a league source tells FOXSports.com’s Bill Reiter.
The free-agent big man arrived in Miami on Monday and was in attendance during the Heat’s loss to the Pacers. Pending a physical, Dampier is expected to sign a one-year deal at the veteran’s minimum. The Heat had previously worked out Dampier in September, but didn’t offer him a contract.
The situation for Miami became desperate when Haslem tore ligaments in his left foot in a loss at Memphis on Saturday. Lacking size to begin with, things got worse during the Heat’s second straight defeat on Monday night, which dropped the newly assembled squad to 8-6 for the season.
The 35-year-old Dampier has had previous stints with the Pacers, Warriors and most recently the Mavericks.
