Merry Christmas, Memphis! Chandler Parsons injury update

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 2:23 p.m. ET

It looks like the Grizzlies have survived their shorthanded stretch. Word on the street says Chandler Parsons will make his return to the lineup tomorrow in Detroit.

The Memphis Grizzlies acquired Chandler Parsons this summer, stealing the free-agent from the Dallas Mavericks by way of a $94 million dollar MAX contract.  His decision sent shock waves across the NBA – but for good reason.

One one hand, Parsons is the biggest free agent acquisition in the history of the Grizzlies franchise. On the other, his knee injury has sidelined him for 17 games this season, after missing the last 18 in Dallas.

Parsons’ suffered a blow to his GOOD knee earlier this season in his return to Dallas.  The injury was one of FIVE Grizzlies’ setbacks, including Mike Conley (fractured back), James Ennis (calf), Vince Carter (hip) and Zach Randolph (personal). Against the odds, the ‘Nasty Nine’ responded with a 7-2 record, with wins over the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors.

Good news for Grizzlies fans: It looks like the entire roster is almost healthy again! Earlier today, Grind City Media’s Mike Wallace tweeted this:

While he says it’s probable that he’ll get in a pre-game workout tonight, Grizz fans shouldn’t expect to see Chandler in uniform tonight. Rather, he’ll look to return tomorrow night on the road against a struggling Pistons team.

In the six games Parsons’ has played this season, he’s averaging just over seven points and 3 rebounds.  Keep in mind, he’s barely played more than 20 minutes each night. Even though his Grizzlies debut was cringeworthy, there is plenty to look forward to if he stays healthy.

In the 10+ games prior to his season-ending injury, Parsons’ averaged roughly 18 points per game for Dallas.

I don’t know about you, but I am highly excited to see Chandler Parsons make it rain in the Grindhouse.
