Looking at the Boston Celtics all-time starting five
The Boston Celtics are the most successful organization in basketball history. They've had some incredibly talented players and seen unbelievable success. But of all who've worn Celtics green, which five players should crack the team's all-time starting lineup?
Some choices are easy, like Bill Russell at center. But a few others are incredibly difficult. You can look at the team Yahoo! NBA blogger Kelly Dwyer compiled right here. Here's what Dwyer had to say about how hard the process plucking only five players was:
"The Celtics are so deep and have been so loaded that it almost confounds as to why they’ve only won 17 championships. The team was way ahead of its time in its ability to scout NBA-level talent that would transcend generations, and though there were some rough stretches, the C’s have spent the great majority of its existence playing chess while their opponents were playing, well, losing basketball."
Russell, Larry Bird and John Havlicek all made the team. Paul Pierce and Kevin McHale didn't, even though those two would go down as the best players in the history of almost any other franchise if they didn't play for the Celtics.
Boston's history is special.
