Kristaps Porzingis comes to Carmelo Anthony's defense amid trade rumors

Carmelo Anthony has been in the headlines of late not so much for what he’s been doing on the court but what the New York Knicks reportedly are thinking about doing off it.

Anthony has been the subject of much trade speculation as the trade deadline approaches. But before the Knicks potentially pull the trigger, they might want to consult their other star and franchise player moving forward.

Kristaps Porzingis thinks trading Melo wouldn’t accelerate his learning curve on the court, instead arguing that the 11-time All-Star has helped him grow into a budding superstar.

"I think it would make life harder for me on the court (if Anthony was traded)," Porzingis told the New York Daily News. "He makes stuff easier for me."

Difficult to argue with the 21-year-old Latvian 7-footer. Anthony, who is averaging 23 points and 6.1 rebounds, draws a lot of attention, allowing Porzingis to operate in space. Porzingis has built off a strong rookie campaign, averaging 18.7 points and 7.1 rebounds this season, but he’s taking four fewer shots a game than Anthony.
