#TBT: Watch Kobe, Dirk, Duncan, Garnett in their first 20-point games
Another fantastic year of NBA basketball is right around the corner. The season tips off this coming Tuesday, in fact. And 2015-16 will feature a number of the NBA’s greatest players ever –with some who might be on farewell tours.
To celebrate the league’s veteran stars, the league shared highlight clips from the first career 20-point games of Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett and Dirk Nowitzki. Whether one of those living legends is on your favorite team or you’re just a fan of basketball in general, it’s worth taking a stroll down memory lane for a NBA edition of Throwback Thursday.
For Bryant, his first big scoring game came against a familiar opponent, as the Los Angeles Lakers took on the Sacramento Kings:
Duncan, who doesn’t look like he’s aged a bit since he joined the Spurs, tore up the Minnesota Timberwolves. And you’re going to want to watch him beat Cherokee Parks off the dribble for an emphatic slam:
On the other hand, it’s shocking how young Garnett looks against the Chicago Bulls:
Nowitzki’s 20-point highlight clip is a study in how even future MVPs develop over the course of their careers. There’s more spring in his jumper in this game against the Phoenix Suns, and his release isn’t quite in the place that it is today — and it’s not as fast, either:
Now, we wait for these four stars to take the court when the games matter once again. Here’s hoping everyone’s healthy in 2015-16.
