Players will occasionally flop during games to fool the officials into blowing the whistle in their favor. But when a fan sitting in a courtside seat exaggerates some incidental contact, something far more nefarious is in play.

That’s what went down in the fourth quarter of the Grizzlies’ win over the Knicks on Friday, when Vince Carter found himself running through the front row after he was fouled on a possession. While contact may have occurred, the individual appeared to make it out to be worse than it was, and fell down immediately while covering his eye.

“He said that I slapped him,” Carter said, via the New York Daily News. “How did I slap him? I’m trying not to fall in the stands. In front of the security guard. It was just weird.

“I just heard him say what he said, cursing, that’s why I was like, ‘What? What is this coming from?’ And then the security guard said he heard it.”

The fan ended up being ejected for cursing at Carter, who obviously had no intention of inflicting any damage.
