James Harden named Western Conference Player of Week for November 7-13

James Harden has been on fire through the first 10 games of the season. Harden was named Western Conference Player of the Week for November 7 through November 13th.

Last week James Harden continued his offensive onslaught playing 3 games and leading the Rockets to 2 victories. Given the Rockets have played the majority of their games on the road in the early stages of the season his output is even more impressive.

Harden posted averages of 27.0 points, 14.3 assists  and 9.7 rebounds last week and continues to lead the Association in assists per game.  Specifically the 3 games the Rockets played were wins over the Washington Wizards and San Antonio Spurs as well as their lone loss at home to the Spurs.  Incredibly Harden notched back to back triple-doubles versus the Spurs.

His stat lines for the 3 games were:

Wizards: 32 points, 15 assists  six rebounds

Spurs in San Antonio: 24 points, 15 assists and 12 rebounds

Spurs at home in Houston: 25 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds

Joining Harden as Player of the Week in the East is DeMar DeRozan who continues to lead the league in scoring. DeRozan’s efforts helped the Raptors to 3 consecutive wins last week. Also of note, DeRozan has registered 30 points or more in all but 1 game prior to his game versus the Cavaliers on Tuesday, November 15.  Michael Jordan was the last player to score 30 points or more in 8 of his first 9 games to start a season.

For DeRozan his scoring has helped the Raptors to a 7-2 record entering this week (the Raptors have since lost 2 tightly contested games versus the Cavaliers and Warriors on a brutal back to back set).

While many pundits have earmarked numerous teams to take the East’s second seed behind the Cavaliers it’s important to note at the time of Toronto’s wins versus Detroit, Miami, Charlotte and Oklahoma City they were ranked as the top three through six defenses.

With so many games played on the road to start the season, James Harden has his team dialed in on staying above .500 and competing to return to the top of the West.
