Stan Van Gundy continues to praise rookie Stanley Johnson
Detroit Pistons rookie Stanley Johnson has generated the most buzz of any rookie ever since training camp began.
Johnson's versatility to play multiple positions, work ethic and competitive nature have earned him plenty of praise from coaches around the league, including the one he needs to impress most: Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy.
Indiana Pacers head coach Frank Vogel and SVG recently talked about what makes Johnson stand out with Keith Langlois of Pistons.com:
“He looks terrific,” said Indiana coach Frank Vogel, who saw Johnson drop 26 points in his NBA debut a week ago, before adding 16 in his first preseason start at Indiana on Tuesday. “He’s playing lights out. We were all very high on him coming out of the draft. They seem to have found a big-time winner there.”
“He’s just a really mature guy,” Van Gundy said this week. “There’s nothing rookie about him in the way he approaches it. There’s no deer in the headlights, there’s no fear. He looks like he’s been doing this for three or four years. Nothing really fazes him. Stanley’s just not going to back down. He’s not afraid. He’s not in awe of any of this.”
