Big Sean name drops Steph Curry on new album

Stephen Curry, the two-time MVP, has become a pretty popular player for rappers to write about. Big Sean is the latest to name drop the star.

Basketball and hip-hop are intertwined. The two cultures are interlocked, with one influencing the other. They say that rappers want to be ball players and hoopers want to get in the booth. The two world are so close together that we compared Golden State Warriors players to hip-hop artists (check it out here).

One of the most recognizable ways we see this fusion is when a rapper name drops a basketball player. Michael Jordan is probably the most popular one. If you want to be considered the greatest, it seems logical to compare yourself to that guy.

But only the most transcendent players become staples in music. Stephen Curry has become one of them. Of course, Drake is the most notable example of it as his “Steph Curry with the shot” lyric became iconic. Other artists like The Game, Future, and Nicki Minaj have all had their own reference to the two-time MVP.

Big Sean has now added himself to the list. The Detroit native just released his latest album I Decided. In it, he gives Curry a shoutout.

If you don’t want to listen to the whole song, fast forward to the 1:36 mark. If you don’t want to listen to it at all, the line goes “boy this that flow that got Steph Curry inspired.” He follows it up with a LeBron James line, but we don’t need to get into all that.

Curry and Big Sean have established a bit of a relationship in the past. Riley Curry famously sang Sean Don’s “Blessed” in a press conference while sitting on her dad’s lap. It was part of her breakout postseason. The rapper then tweeted his support for her, amidst fake outrage that broke out when she took the spotlight.

Steph Curry has established himself as one of the biggest stars in the entire NBA. He’s one of the greatest players ever and his exciting rise has made him someone that people want to be mentioned with. He’s a generational talent that can dazzle a crowd better than anyone else.

The longer Curry and the Golden State Warriors stay on top, the more this is going to happen. It’s always fun seeing how musicians are going to incorporate the superstar point guard into their tracks. It’s also a nice way to get the Bay Area to listen to your song.

Make sure you check out Big Sean’s entire album. It’s really good. It’s witty with some great beats and solid storytelling.

if you want to be the best, you have to put yourself with the best. That’s Steph Curry.
