With the regular season in the books and open season for Moments hunting having ended, it feels like as good a time as any for a re-ranking of the top Moments cards we’ve seen in MyTEAM this year.
The following are the top Moments from a regular season oozing with transcendent individual performances and whether they’re worth your MT.
Let's have a moment, guys. Sorry.
Derick E. HingleDerick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports
Emerald Thon Maker
Thon Maker is the closest thing to a MyPARK stretch-big actually playing in the NBA, and I can already tell 2K is going to spoil the hell out of Thon's future cards if he continues playing like he has this spring.
Buy or Sell: Buy for the novelty, and because it looks good on the mantle. I don’t know why, but certain emeralds look sexy as hell on-screen.
Emerald Skal Labissiere
Skal Labissiere is good and this card is good and people need to know that.
Buy or Sell: Buy. You know you want to.
Sapphire Zach LaVine
Approximately four thousand three-point monster cards have been released in MyTEAM since Sapphire Zach LaVine came on the scene and he’s still is one of the smoothest, glitchiest dudes in the game.
Buy or Sell: Buy. He’s cheap and fun as hell.
Emerald Terrence Jones
2K lowered his intangibles down to 50, and still Emerald Terrence Jones rises.
This card has the most attributes (3,503) of any emerald, can shoot the three, block shots and bully most post players with his 82 strength—and that is more than you can ask of any emerald card.
Buy or Sell: Buy Terrence and throw him in your all-emerald lineup as a camouflaged ruby.
Sapphire Jabari Parker
The top-rated sapphire Moments card, Jabari Parker was on a king-hell tear before going down with a season-ending ACL tear, and I can imagine he’d be knocking on the door of a high diamond by now had he stayed healthy.
Buy or Sell: Sell. There aren’t a lot floating around and it’s hard to get a decent ROI on rare sapphires.
Sapphire Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid’s final Moment before the 76ers shut him down for the season and robbed us all of the ridiculous Skills Competition diamond he surely would’ve bagged at All-Star Weekend.
The Season Elites pack gave us the Embiid diamond we lusted for at night, but unless you got a black Amex, you’ll have to settle for window-shopping top shelf Embiid.
Buy or Sell: Sell. You can still get solid MT for pretty much any Embiid Moment, and while it’s a fun piece, there are KAT Moments out there with better stats going for cheap.
Ruby James Harden
One of the first juggernaut Moments of the year, Ruby Harden has long since been left in the dust by the 400-odd other Moments 2K has showered on the Beard this year, but must be recognized as the first true Swiss army knife guard card of the MyTEAM season.
Buy or Sell: Buy. Just to have around and use in friendlies against people you’re much better than.
Ruby LeBron James
Duo him up with sapphire Moments Wade and voila—you’ve got the budget Amethyst 'Bron.
Buy or Sell: Buy and flip.
Any Carmelo Anthony Moment
Carmelo Anthony Moments cards are just turbo-charges for 2K’s most perennially unfair player, and once you get to his Ruby level and above his three-point shot starts to drop at rage-quit-inducing levels.
Buy or Sell: Buy. Because you believe in Melo more than his own team president.
Amethyst Jamal Murray
A small batch Moments release in honor of his performance in the Rising Stars Challenge at All-Star, amethyst Jamal Murray is a bouncy, three-raining problem out on the floor.
He’s so-so on defense, but the inconsistencies become a lot more palatable when you can basically choose whether to dunk or feather in a moving three on your opponent on any given possession.
Buy or Sell: Buy. His price has finally dropped and for that I am thankful.
Ruby Paul George
The addition of a three-point shot turns this year's cover athlete from a MyTEAM afterthought to a damn nightmare.
Buy or Sell: Buy and flip.
Ruby Draymond Green
The highest-rated ruby in total attributes (3,692), Ruby Draymond is a one of one among MyTEAM bigs thanks to ridiculous stat boosts 2K gave him to commemorate his historic 10-steal triple-double back in February.
Buy or Sell: Buy and stash for whenever you need to throw a total monkey wrench in someone’s plans to bully you in the paint.
Ruby Anthony Davis
The first truly great Moments card of the season. You could get all the way through Domination and Historic Dom with Ruby Anthony Davis as your power forward and be more than fine.
Buy or Sell: Buy—assuming you have him already and are sniping cheap resells at auction and flipping them.
Amethyst Bradley Beal
Beal’s Moments card continue to be exceptionally buttery at all ranges this year.
Buy or Sell: Buy. He’s cheap and fun to plug in when you get tired of whatever world-eating diamond you’ve got at the two.
Amethyst Kawhi Leonard
Art continues to imitate life as Kawhi Leonard Moments cards continue to be undervalued as unsung monsters capable of doing pretty much anything on the court.
Buy or Sell: Buy. He’s like, really good, guys.
Amethyst LeBron James
The first amethyst card to hit the MyTEAM market, amethyst LeBron made his debut back in early December and continues to age like a fine port as a do-it-all small forward.
Buy or Sell: Buy low and sell. Find him badged out on the cheap and turn him around quick.
Amethyst Kyrie Irving
Amethyst Kyrie has the unusual distinction of being one of the lowest-rated cards of his tier and one of the most likely to do things that make your opponent throw their console into their neighbor’s yard.
Buy or Sell: Buy. Bring him off the bench and have fun seeing how many ankles you can clear-cut in a quarter.
Amethyst Nikola Jokic
Probably the best center card that won’t cost you blood plasma to lock down. Amethyst Jokic can't jump high enough to clear coarser grades of sand, but he stretches defenses with the best of them and can put even the bounciest rim protectors in the torture chamber with his cash post fade.
Buy or Sell: Buy. All day.
Amethyst Karl Anthony-Towns
This street-tuned-monster has 84 speed, 90 block and 82 Open Three on top of 90-plus marks across the board in all rebounding categories. And an 89 post fadeaway.
Just so we’re clear.
Buy or Sell: Buy. He’s rated 17th overall among Moments cards for total attributes, and his beef-jerky-fed calves alone are worth the MT.
Amethyst DeMarcus Cousins
You can get Amethyst Boogie for Dollar Menu prices and he will literally eat whomever your opponent sends to check him.
Buy or Sell: A+ budget baller buy.
Diamond Jimmy Butler
They’re basically pillow mints at this point, but diamond Jimmy Butler cards remain significant as the first diamond Moment of the season and definitely one of the most annoying and effective two-way cards in the game. Diamond Jimmy will lock down everything from point guards to small forwards and low-flying passenger planes, and when he's not doing that, he's splashing heavily contested mid-range fadeaways directly in your eye.
Buy or Sell: Buy low and sell...less low. What they don't tell you in middle school is that island of trash floating in the middle of the Pacific is actually just a giant floating clump of diamond Jimmy Butlers that didn’t sell at auction.
Diamond DeMarcus Cousins
The latest and greatest DeMarcus Cousins card, diamond Boogie carries on Cousins’ torch as the most undefendable offensive center in MyTEAM and a card bordering on a cheat code.
Buy or Sell: Sell. The gem level and card art looks nice on-screen, but diamond Boogie is just amethyst Boogie with streamers on the handle bars.
Diamond Russell Westbrook
There are two diamond Russ Moments cards and you can't go wrong with either should you have the luck or means to get your hands on them.
Buy or Sell: Sell. Diamond Russ is a Ferrari that’s fun to drive up and down the court but a complete luxury that you in no way need.
Diamond Kristaps Porzingis
I’ll save my sermon on the game-frying nature of MyTEAM's diamond Porzingis cards and just say that Kristaps’ in-game character looks like a muscle-bound monster from Tekken that was put into 2K by accident and must now play basketball to gain his freedom.
Buy or Sell: Buy. After his 97-overall card debuted in the Season Elites pack last week, the price of Three Six Latvia’s earlier diamond for winning the Skills Competition at All-Star Weekend has plummeted into the realm of the relatively attainable. And believe me: It has more than enough cowbells for your needs.
Amethyst Giannis Antetokounmpo
I've drained multiple off-balance, moving corner threes as time expired with amethyst Giannis and that is all you need to know about this card.
Buy or Sell: Buy. Amethyst Greek Freak has more total attributes (3,788) stuffed into his 6’11” frame than diamond Dream Team Magic Johnson (3,773) and Patrick Ewing (3,732). And for some dumb reason, you can get him for around 40,000 MT at auction nowadays.
