Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert's decision to part ways with general manager David Griffin - and LeBron James public defense of Griffin on Twitter, has fueled the growing speculation that James could be preparing to leave Cleveland for a second time.
On Tuesday's episode of "The Herd", Colin Cowherd explained why he believed the Clippers are the only team with a real shot at landing LeBron.
It's still most likely LeBron stays with the Cavs, but the Clippers are in a great position
“In this big picture this morning, that tweet by LeBron James - just that tweet - think about how many things it does. It opens the door for LeBron to leave. It puts pressure on Dan Gilbert, who will probably [opt for] Jimmy Butler. It could help the Lakers, because Jimmy’s off the market, Paul [George] doesn’t go to Cleveland, and Paul ultimately wants to go to the Lakers … we have a lot of things going on right now.
"And let me throw one more thing at you. There are a lot of questions about where LeBron goes. My belief is, and we’ll throw the numbers up here for you. This is my belief on LeBron James, and LeBron James’ future.
"I think 75 percent, he stays in Cleveland. Gilbert gets him a good running mate, a Jimmy Butler, and he stays.
"I think the field is about 5 percent.
"But I think the Clippers - keep your eye on the Clippers.”
Jerry West is a major key in bringing LeBron to L.A.
“I give them a 20 percent chance [to land LeBron], and I’ll give you a handful of reasons. I think there are four, five things that are a big deal.
"Jerry West has signed with the Clippers. Jerry West, the logo, is absolutely respected. I would say he’s the only 79-year-old in the NBA that young stars respect and revere. He’s now a Clipper.
"I’ve been told one of the reasons Ballmer’s going to pay him $5 million bucks a year [is] he thinks [West] can induce the interview with LeBron.”

The Clippers could present a more attractive future for LeBron on and off the court
“No. 2 - The Clippers have a new arena coming. LeBron could help be a part of that.
"No. 3 - Steve Ballmer’s net worth.
"No. 4 - Chris Paul, friend of LeBron.
"No. 5 - The business in L.A.
"So in all this [speculation about] LeBron, there are four or five reasons I do believe the Clippers are the only team outside of Cleveland with a shot to get LeBron.”
Going to L.A. makes business sense for LeBron
“Don’t forget, Steve Ballmer is a smart, progressive owner. He is a guy that paid almost all cash for that puppy. They’re making money with the Clippers.
"It wouldn’t shock me if there was a handshake deal at some level - LeBron wants to get into ownership, and an L.A. team with a new arena is going to be worth a lot more than a Cleveland team that wouldn’t have LeBron, or potentially an early retiring Kyrie.”
