Published Nov. 15, 2016 3:17 p.m. ET

Ryan Blaney posted the fastest lap in the Saturday morning practice session at Texas Motor Speedway with a top speed of 188.515 miles per hour.

AJ Allmendinger, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., Casey Mears, and Paul Menard rounded out the top 5 in the session.

Of the eight drivers in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, only two posted practice times in the top 20. Joey Logano was the fastest Chase driver at 187.026 miles per hour, good enough for ninth. Jimmie Johnson was the other Chaser with a top 20 speed, 185.810 miles per hour for 16th fastest.

Austin Dillon, the pole sitter for Sunday's AAA Texas 500, didn't show a ton of speed in the opening practice session as he posted the 25th fastest speed.

Johnson has won the fall race in Texas the past four years and already has his spot for the championship race locked up after winning last weekend at Martinsville Speedway.

The Sprint Cup Series will have one more practice session today at 1:30 p.m. ET. The green flag will drop for the 334 lap, AAA Texas 500 on Sunday at 2:15 p.m. ET.
