Hendrick Motorsports could reach major milestone at New Hampshire
Hendrick Motorsports has the opportunity to reach an incredible milestone if one of their four drivers finishes in the top five in Sunday’s New Hampshire 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Since Rick Hendrick founded the organization in 1984, Hendrick Motorsports cars have recorded 999 top-five finishes.
If Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Chase Elliott or Kasey Kahne can finish fifth or better on Sunday, they will reach the 1,000 mark.
So far in 2016, the Hendrick brigade has accumulated 19 top-five finishes, led by Elliott and Johnson with six.
"I enjoy racing at New Hampshire," Earnhardt Jr. said in a team release. "The track is great. It’s always been one of my favorite stops — it’s always a nice challenge to figure out how to get around the track itself and the racing is pretty fun."
Earnhardt Jr. has yet to win at the 1-mile New England track in his Sprint Cup Series career.
Johnson has three wins at NHMS, with the last victory coming in June 2010.
Kahne also recorded a victory at New Hampshire in July 2012.
Geoff Bodine earned Hendrick Motorsports’ very first top-five finish when he won at Martinsville Speedway on April 29, 1984.
We’ll see if they can make more history on Sunday.
