Orlando shooting victims honored at Daytona this weekend

Now this is good: Every NASCAR Sprint Cup and XFINITY Series car racing at Daytona International Speedway this weekend will carry a special decal honoring the victims of the recent Orlando mass murder.

The multi-color stickers, which say “Orlando United,” will be mounted on the A-posts of the cars, NASCAR announced. The A-post is the post that runs from the front fenders to the roof and connects to the two together.

Team owner Joe Gibbs said he supported the effort.

“It was devastating for all the families involved,” said “Gibbs. “… We’re thrilled to be a part of this program also to honor those that lost their life and to in particular the prayers and praying for everybody (who) lost a loved a one there.”

Early on the morning of June 12, a gunman shot and killed 49 people and injured 53 more at a gay nightclub called Pulse. It was the deadliest mass shooting by a single gunmen in U.S. history.

The shooter, 29-year-old Omar Mateen, was shot and killed by police after a three-hour standoff.
