Kyle Larson starting on pole as weather cancels Monster Energy Series qualifying

MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- Mother Nature won the battle Friday at Martinsville Speedway.

After periods of rain plagued the day, NASCAR made the call to cancel Monster Energy Cup Series qualifying for Sunday's STP 500 (2 p.m. ET, FS1).

The field will be set by owner points, which means last week's Auto Club Speedway race winner Kyle Larson will start on pole. Hendrick Motorsports drivers Chase Elliott will start alongside him.

"I think it will be a good advantage," said Larson. "To start on the pole and hopefully get the jump and take care of my stuff early. That No. 1 pit stall will be big here. It seems like that pit stall is good as it gets for any race track we go to."

There are two Saturday practice sessions slated for the Monster Energy Series, with the first at 11 a.m. ET and final practice at 1:30 p.m. ET, both on FS1.
