Hendrick Motorsports swept the top two spots in Friday’s opening NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Kasey Kahne was able to jump to the top spot in the closing minutes of the one-hour, 25-minute session, posting a time of 14.971 seconds at 128.168 miles per hour. The driver of the No. 5 Chevrolet was able to better teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. by 0.001 seconds.
Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski was third-fastest, with a lap at 14.994 seconds at 127.971 mph.

Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Carl Edwards and David Ragan rounded out the top five in the only Cup practice of the day.
Justin Allgaier, Joey Logano, Ryan Newman, Jamie McMurray and Austin Dillon made up the rest of the top 10.
In a session in which most teams prepared for Friday’s qualifying session, Josh Wise spent much of the session atop the leaderboard after posting a qualifying lap early on. Once other teams switched over to qualifying trim, Wise fell to 30th.
Stewart-Haas Racing’s Tony Stewart ran the most laps of the session, circling the half-mile track a total of 65 times and posting the 35th-fastest lap.
