Joao Barbosa rallies for Grand-Am win in Detroit

Joao Barbosa passed teammate David Donohue with 18 laps left and

went on to win the Grand-Am Detroit 200 at Belle Isle on

Saturday.

The Portuguese driver earned his first win of the season and No.

8 for his career in the series, co-driving with Darren Law. Donohue

was second, just .440 seconds behind. Scott Pruett finished third,

co-driving in the 2-hour race with Memo Rojas.

Barbosa avoided trouble, unlike competitors such as Ricky

Taylor, who won the last two Grand-Am events. Taylor pitted to give

up the lead nearing the midway mark of the race and hit a retaining

wall at the pit-road exit.

Taylor won in the Grand Touring class, Jonathan Bomarito

finished second and Robin Liddell third.
