Hour 259 on Daytona countdown: Dale Jarrett’s last-lap pass

As FOX Sports continues its 500 hours to the 2017 Daytona 500 countdown, we remember the first of NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Jarrett’s three wins in the Great American Race.

It came in 1993, when Jarrett won the battle of Dales with Dale Earnhardt and made a nifty last-lap pass to not only win his first 500 — but to also score the first victory in the history of Joe Gibbs Racing. JGR had opened for business the previous year as a single-car operation running , but Jarrett had gone winless while driving the No. 18 Chevrolet.

Jarrett did not win again that season in ’93, but that dramatic first win for JGR in NASCAR’s biggest race still looms large in the history of the sport. Check out the video above.
