Hour 192 of Daytona countdown: Dale Jr. recalls father’s triumph

As FOX Sports continues its 500-hour countdown to the Daytona 500, we tabbed Dale Earnhardt Jr. to mark Hour 192 by sharing his favorite memory from the Great American Race.

It is no surprise.

No, Junior did not name either of his own two Daytona 500 victories, which came in 2004 and a decade later in 2014.

He named his late father’s lone 500 triumph in 1998 — on the elder Earnhardt’s 20th attempt in the 50th running of the race.

What Earnhardt Jr. especially enjoyed was the way opposing teams lined up on pit road to congratulate his father afterward, calling it “the ultimate tip of the cap from all your peers.”
