Jeff Gordon missed out on his shot at the 2014 championship by one point, but he could ease some of the sting by winning the season finale.

Jeff Gordon is on the pole for Sunday’s Ford 400, the final race in the 2014 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, after turning a fast lap of 180.747 mph in Friday’s qualifying session at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
The bigger story — four drivers remain in the running for the Sprint Cup championship in Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick, Ryan Newman and Denny Hamlin. The highest-finishing driver wins the title — it’s just that simple.
Sunday’s race starts at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN, with coverage starting at 1 p.m. ET.
